What We Do

More Than a Drawing.
A Complete Design Studio.

MESA Design is a multi-disciplinary studio providing Architecture, Development, Planning, and Furniture Design. Based in scenic Southern Utah and Denver, Colorado, we collaborate with the best industry professionals to deliver projects that exceed expectations.

Inspired by the forces and forms of the natural world, every project integrates function, sustainability, economics, and technology with art, character, purpose, and soul. No two projects are the same. Each design is unique, site-specific, and built to last.

Architecture

Custom residential, commercial, mixed-use, and everything in between. Site-responsive design with real attention to detail.

Planning + Development

Site selection, feasibility, zoning analysis, and full-project planning from inception to occupancy.

Sustainable Design

Solar, net-zero, Passivehaus, LEED, geothermal, and more. Green design is a core practice, not a checkbox.

What We Offer

Full-Service Architectural Practice

From your first idea to construction completion, MESA Design covers every phase with precision and care. Every service is purpose-built around your project.

01

Project Inception & Programming

We start by listening. Needs assessment, site analysis, and building program development that captures every goal before a single line is drawn.

02

Schematic Design

Your vision begins to take physical form. Conceptual plans, sections, and elevations that establish the look, feel, and character of your project.

03

Design Development

Details are refined, materials are selected, and engineering is coordinated. The design becomes buildable, precise, and ready for construction documents.

04

Construction Documents

Permit-ready, contractor-ready drawing sets. Complete, coordinated, and thorough enough to get accurate bids and build exactly what was designed.

05

3D Renderings

Precisely scaled digital models and photorealistic renderings that let you see your project before it is built, and make decisions with confidence.

06

Construction Administration

We stay engaged through construction. Site observation, RFI responses, submittal review, and contractor coordination to protect the design intent.

07

Feasibility Studies & Site Selection

Before you commit, we study the site. Zoning, codes, utilities, access, views, and solar orientation all feed into a clear-eyed feasibility picture.

08

Bidding & Contractor Negotiation

We manage the bid process, evaluate contractor proposals, and negotiate on your behalf so you get fair pricing from qualified builders.

09

Interior Design

From space planning to material selections and furniture layouts, we bring the same design discipline indoors that defines our exterior work.

How We Work

A Clear Process from Idea to Built

Every project moves through a defined sequence. You always know where you are, what comes next, and what decisions are needed from you.

1

Discovery

We meet, listen, and study your site. Goals, budget, schedule, and site conditions are established before design begins.

2

Design

Schematic concepts evolve into developed designs. You review, respond, and direct. Changes happen on paper, not in the field.

3

Documents

Fully coordinated construction documents and permit sets, built to support accurate bidding and smooth construction.

4

Build

We stay with you through construction. Site visits, oversight, and problem-solving so the finished building matches the design.

Experience Across Sectors

Every Project Type. Any Scale.

From a single-family custom home to a lodge, veterinary clinic, or airport terminal, MESA Design has the track record to take it on.

Why It Matters

Why You Need a Licensed Architect

While every architect can draft, not every draftsman is an architect. The difference between drawing up plans and designing a building is night and day.

A licensed architect brings years of formal education and professional training to bear on every project. They navigate building codes, fire and life safety regulations, energy codes, accessibility standards, zoning ordinances, and environmental regulations simultaneously.

More importantly, a good architect is a strategic partner. Changes made on paper cost a fraction of changes made during construction. Thorough drawings make it easier for contractors to price accurately and build exactly what was designed.

Good design adds tangible value. A home designed to maximize views commands higher resale value. A well-designed retail space draws more customers. A well-considered work environment attracts better talent.

Code Compliance Built In

Building, fire, energy, accessibility, and zoning codes all addressed from day one, not discovered mid-construction.

Design That Adds Value

Site-responsive homes command stronger resale values. A well-designed business environment directly affects revenue and retention.

Protection Through the Build

We stay engaged through construction to catch issues early, protect your investment, and ensure the design is actually built as intended.

Timeless, Not Trendy

We design for how the building will look and perform in 30 years, not just on the day it opens. Materials, proportions, and character that age gracefully.

What Clients Say
The design of the exterior completely exceeded my expectations. I get so many compliments on the curb appeal of my home, and I could not be happier. Robert was extremely helpful and coached me through the entire process. My house is gorgeous, and that is all thanks to Robert.

Principal Architect

Robert Kaczowka

Robert Kaczowka is the founding Principal of MESA Design, LLC with over thirty years of experience in Architectural Design, Construction, and Planning. He graduated with honors from the New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Architecture.

Starting his career in Connecticut and New York, Robert was immersed in the historic roots of New England and the progressive built environment of New York City. A move west ignited a lasting passion for the natural beauty of the American West and shaped the design philosophy that defines MESA Design today.

Rather than following trends, Kaczowka's approach has always been rooted in listening to the client, responding to the land, building with environmental sensitivity, and honoring the culture of each site. His work merges established vernacular forms with a Natural Modern aesthetic, producing buildings that are both pragmatic and poetic.
